1. The latest about Joe Kort's Psychotherapy and Coaching Practice

Hello Kort's Korner Subscribers,

I am now offering podcasts and teleseminars which were recorded. Click here

I am starting to do audios, videos and digital handouts on all the topics I teach in my workshops, therapy, classes which are listed below under my specialties.

I receive hundreds of emails a week asking questions which have commonalities such as a few of these:

"How do I know if I am gay?"

"Will my relationship fail if we are not monogamous?"

"Why can't I find the right relationship?"

"What is a sexual addiction?"

"I think I am sexually anorexic how do I know"

I have done workshops, classes, psychotherapy and coaching on these questions for years and am going to begin putting my answers to these on audio files so you can download them to your computer and/or receive pdf's with the most common answers to these questions.

Do you have a question or topic you would like me to explore? If so please email me back and I will make sure I create an audio or handout about that topic if I can.

Thank you all for staying loyal Kort's Korner readers and I do hope that what I offer within these ezines is helpful to you.

Warmly, Joe

($100 Total for 4 weeks!)

Relationship class for straight, gay and lesbian singles and individuals in relationships.

This four-week workshop is appropriate for singles not currently in a relationship, who are tired of making the same mistakes over and over again and want to learn the secret to finding and keeping lasting love. This workshop is all about transforming the self. Often we are tempted to think the problem is "finding the right person." But this workshop is all about "becoming the right person."

This workshop is also an ideal follow-up workshop for those who have taken the couples workshop. Couples have gone through this workshop together after the couples workshop. It is a great opportunity to reflect on one's self within the relationship.

What you can expect from this workshop:

  • SELF-DISCOVERY: Discover why you are always attracted to similar types of people. Understand the connection between the frustrations you've experienced in past relationships and your frustrations in childhood. Recognize your past wounds and the defenses which you use to protect yourself from being hurt again. These are the walls that prevent more intimate relationships.

  • HEALING PAST WOUNDS: You will begin the process of healing past wounds and get a chance to "say goodbye" to former love partners. As you release old feelings you'll be able to look forward to the future and begin to get over your fears.

  • NEW RELATIONSHIP SKILLS: You will get to practice effective skills to help you break the negative cycle of relating. You'll discover how you inadvertently sabotage relationships to protect yourself from unconscious fears and anticipated hurts.  With the new tools learned at this workshop, you will be able to convert conflict into growth in your next relationship.

CREATING A PLAN FOR PERSONAL CHANGE: By the end of the workshop you will know what you must change in yourself to Keep The Love You Find - and you'll create a step-by-step personal program to help you achieve your goals.

  • MEET NEW PEOPLE WHO ARE ALSO INVOLVED IN PERSONAL GROWTH

  • UNDERSTAND THE MYSTERY OF LOVE: Learn about the stages of love. Develop an understanding of romantic love, the power struggle and real love.

  • RECOGNIZE THE ROLE OF SEX AND SEXUAL CHEMISTRY BETWEEN YOU AND A PARTNER: The role that sex plays in a relationship is important. Learn how it can help and how it can hurt your relationships.

3. Book Review: Getting The Sex You Want by Tammy Nelson

This book by Tammy Nelson is unlike most other self-help books where they describe the problem, how the problem gets worse and usually a chapter (if you're lucky) on what to do about the problem.

Tammy Nelson fills her book with exercises and action plans in each chapter from start to finish! If you are a couple wanting to "get the sex you want" and are looking for behavior changes, than this is the book for you.

I highly recommend this book.

Straight Guise: Treating Heterosexual Men Who Have Sex With Men
Joe Kort, LMSW

1. Description of Training

When a male client reveals he fantasizes about having sex with men, is caught looking at online gay porn and in gay chat rooms, and possibly is having sex with men, the tendency is to label the client as gay or bisexual. However, for many of these men this is not about either. A variety of reasons exist as to why men seek other men for sex which are not about a gay identity. Therapists, being politically correct, often believe the man is in denial about his homosexuality or bisexuality and move him in a direction toward coming out gay when--in fact--he is not. This presentation will discuss ways understanding the male client’s interest in sexual contact with men, and helping him decide what course of treatment is best for him.

2. Bibliographic references for talk:

A. Mending A Shattered Heart: A Guide for Partners of Sex Addicts

A Gentle Press edited by Stephanie Carnes, Ph.D.

B. Psychotherapy Networker Magazine

Gay Guise: What To Do When Your Client Has Sex With Men, But Is Straight was a case study article for therapists working with heterosexual
men who have sex with men (MSM) and are heterosexual.

C. On the Down Low: A Journey into the Lives of “Straight” Black Men Who Sleep with Men  by  J.L. King

D. Beyond the Down Low: Sex, Lies, and Denial in Black America  by Keith Boyken

3. Objectives for talk:
  1. Understand the psychological meanings of the arousal template of the straight men who seek sex with men (MSM's) who are not gay or bisexual.
  2. Learn to help the client communicate an understanding about his sexuality and to understand what the behavior means for him.
  3. Address the fears, homophobia, anxieties and insecurities of these clients about their sexual behaviors and interest in engaging in sexual activity with other men.

5. HUMOR: 1-900-FAG-HAGS

As many of you know I use quite a bit of humor in my talks, therapy, coaching and writings. This youtube.com video I found is hysterical.
