Whether you are in your own “coming out” process, or you care about someone who is, this presentation is for you.
During this lively and interactive presentation you will be able to gather and learn new information, have the chance to share your thoughts, questions, and comments, and hear from others in attendance. You will be given the opportunity to meet and socialize in a safe and supportive environment.
This is also a wonderful opportunity for anyone working in the mental health field who seeks to grow in his/her ability to work with gay, lesbian and bisexual clients.
We will examine and discuss the stages of coming out and
- understanding feelings of same sex attraction
- examining stereotypes about gays and lesbians
- coming out to family, friends, and co-workers
- overcoming feelings of fear and isolation
- importance of developing a network of social support
- what to expect and what to avoid during the coming out process
- how family dynamics impact the coming out process
- issues of grief and loss
- staying safe physically and emotionally
- Post Traumatic Stress Disorder symptoms from long-term “closetedness,” relationship issues, heterosexual marriage, and more.
